Irene Waite
Irene was born and grew up in Nairobi and has had a long career of over 20 years within the United Nations, having worked at the UN Nairobi with UNEP and UNON and later moved to London in 2011 to join the International Maritime Organization. She currently serves at IMO as a Human Resources Officer specializing in recruitment and staff development. She has also in the past few years been involved in the activities towards in the implementation of a strategy on racial equity and quality and is also a gender focal point working towards gender mainstreaming within IMO. Irene is pursuing certification as a career coach and also and has a passion of mentoring young adults who are transitioning from their studies into their careers. She also serves on the committees of two community groups of Kenyans living in the UK as Secretary and treasurer respectively.
Irene is excited to join this committee and hopes that her skills will positively contribute to the engagement of the Society with young Kenyan adults living or studying in the UK, through the Vijana Wetu Mentoring Programme, to assist them in achieving their careers aspirations and also engage with them on our rich Kenyan heritage, as well as to meet and network with likeminded Kenyans and friends of Kenya.
